Types Of Sleep Apnea

There are three types of sleep apnea:

Central Sleep Apnea (CSA) - happens when the brain fails to send a signal to the muscles to take a breath and there is no muscular breathing response.

Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) - occurs when the brain signals the muscles to take a breath and they respond, but are unsuccessful because of an airway obstruction preventing adequate airflow.

Mixed Sleep Apnea - happens when both central sleep apnea and obstructive sleep apnea are present.
